Fitness Philosophy

Training is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle that doesn’t come without proper instruction and commitment. Being healthy isn’t so much of a personal decision as it is a responsibility you have to your family, your friends, and most importantly to yourself! I believe in a combination of properly performed strength and cardiovascular training in conjunction with a healthy diet. Achieving better health does not necessarily mean cutting out the foods and activities that you love, but rather balancing the poor habits with the good to achieve a higher level of well-being. Being healthy is one of the more vital parts of life, as is being happy. Therefore, the goal should be to find enjoyment and balance in the pursuit of better health!

About Andrew

Andrew holds an Advanced Diploma in Public Safety with an Investigations Major from Melbourne, Australia. He met his American wife on a remote beach in Southern Thailand, and we are so glad that he landed in Kansas City and came to work at City Gym. Andrew has been in the fitness industry for over three years and his favorite aspect of Personal Training is seeing his clients achieve goals and feel excited about the changes in their bodies. In Andrew’s free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his wife and son.

Fitness goes beyond looking good naked. Fitness is also about longevity, correct and pain-free movement, cognitive and emotional health, having heaps of energy, and performing at your fullest everyday. All of this blends into living a richer, fuller life. It’s about being an awesome human. I believe in working efficiently and working hard. And to have balance, rest is just as important to overall health and fitness than what we do inside and outside of the gym. My clients aren’t just told what to do, but they are taught specifically why they are doing what they are doing. My goal is to empower my clients and teach them for the long-term, to give them fitness and nutrition knowledge that they can take with them down the road.

About Dustin

Dustin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Rockhurst University, and has been in the fitness industry for eight years. He played soccer for 12 years, which ultimately led him to his passion for fitness. Dustin’s favorite aspect of being a Personal Trainer is being part of someone’s health and fitness journey every step of the way. It is important to him that he builds strong, long-term relationships with each of his clients. In his spare time, Dustin enjoys photography, videography and graphic design.

Hailee is the Owner and Founder of City Gym. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she also played collegiate soccer. She brings over 12 years of experience to her personal training sessions and group classes, and she specializes in weight loss, pre/post-natal and total transformations. Hailee’s favorite thing about fitness is inspiring her clients. She loves being part of their journey to realizing how strong they really are. In her spare time, she is still a movement junkie. She loves to run, cycle, ski, you name it! She also enjoys meditating, cooking and a good Netflix marathon session.

My FIT-losophy is one of guidance and inspiration. My sole purpose is to help people with their health and fitness journey. I know how hard it can be to reach out and ask for help, and I want to make that process as easy as possible. I know that there is not only one fitness program that works for everyone since we are all so uniquely designed. Before I start creating programs for my clients, I like to get to know you first. Then, I don't stop getting to know you. I think that getting to know the people I work with is the most important way I can help them reach their goals. Engaging the people I work with on a more personal level allows me to design the best possible programs for them, helps me figure out the best ways to encourage them, and really lets me understand why they want to reach their goals. Every time I work with someone I hope to leave them inspired, happier, physically stronger, mentally stronger, and a little bit closer to the realization that they can and will achieve their goals.

James holds an Associate’s Degree in Personal Training, and has been in the fitness industry for over four years. He is a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor and Lead Membership Representative at City Gym. James believes that hard work, dedication, and believing in yourself will get you further than you've ever imagined. His favorite aspect of personal training is keeping his clients focused, while also making sure they have fun. She has been in the fitness industry for over four years, and if City Gym had a mascot, Jenny would be it! She is a Personal Trainer, Small Group Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor and professional generator of excitement.  On the rare occasion when Jenny isn’t at the gym, you can find her at the dog park with her pups, hanging out with her husband, running a marathon, donating her time to the fitness community or rocking out as a lead singer in the cover band, Sellout.

Outside of fitness, Oleha is a Licensed Aesthetician and even has been known to do some dog training on the side. Her hidden talents/hobbies include: Yoga table-top 'hovers' and head stands, Ryukyukempo karate, hula-hooping, horseback riding, snowboarding and working on her aim at the gun range.

About Cheryl

Cheryl is both an instructor and trainer. She received her B.A. in English, from the University of Missouri- Columbia and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. She has worked in fitness for 10 years and believes that fitness should be something you enjoy. She says, "If you don't like what you're doing, you won't stick with it for the long term." Cheryl's favorite thing about working in this industry is connecting with people in class and building personal relationships. In her free time she likes to to run with friends, do yoga, play in the garden, read good books, hang with her dachshund (we love wiener dogs at CGKC) and see movies. Did we mention that if you ever want to unlock the secret to the best Yogurtini cup construciton, you must ask Cheryl? We believe in balance around here!
