Meet Lindsay, CGKC Member!
Where are you from?
I grew up in Louisburg, Kansas and then lived in Lawrence, KS for 8 years where I earned my BS in Journalism from KU in 2010. Now I live in Overland Park with my boyfriend and our tuxedo cat Bella.
What do you love about living in KC?
I love the sense of pride and community I get from living in the KC area. It's something that I've never felt living elsewhere.
What is your profession?
I work as the Training & Development Coordinator for a financial services firm in Leawood. I take care of the behind the scenes logistics of all of our company's training events.
How long have you been a member of CGKC?
I joined CGKC in April of 2016.
What made you decide to become a member of CGKC?
I had previously been a member of Title Boxing Club for 4 1/2 years (started in Lawrence and then transferred to one in KC when I moved to the area in 2014), but due to some changes that occurred within the club at the beginning of 2016, it became clear that it was time for me to make a change and find something new. While I still miss kickboxing at times, I love the variety of classes and equipment that CGKC has to offer in comparison to my old gyms.
What is your favorite thing about CGKC?
I love the variety of classes and the welcoming feeling I get every time I walk through the door.
If you take classes, what is your favorite class and why?
I usually take at least two, (sometimes three to four) of Jenny's TRX classes every week. It was one of the first classes I tried at City Gym when I did the 7 Day Trial and I was immediately hooked. I love Jenny's energy and really appreciate that she's always thinking of modifications to accommodate those of us with chronic joint issues, injuries, etc. After eight months of consistently taking her classes, I've noticed a significant increase in my flexibility and overall strength. I also love starting my Saturday mornings with Andrew's City F.I.T. class, it can be intense but it's an awesome total-body workout.
What do you do in your free time?
I'm a huge fan of local sports (my anniversary with my boyfriend is the day the Royals won the World Series) and I love getting up to games at Arrowhead and Kauffman as often as possible. I'm also a bit obsessed with KU basketball. In addition to sports, I love just exploring the area: festivals, trivia nights, new restaurants, etc. Netflix and cute animal videos are also a couple of my favorite pastimes.
Tell us a fun or interesting fact!
I've completed five Tough Mudder obstacle runs in the last three years and plan to do one or two more in 2017. I started doing them to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. I'm usually a pretty overly cautious person and nobody who knows me would've EVER expected me to get into this type of thing. It became a great way to overcome some of my fears and I've made some lasting friendships along the way. It's also an amazing feeling to see your hard work at the gym pay off when you conquer a new obstacle that you couldn't finish the year before.
